‘Why don’t we open a windsurf school somewhere’, asked Kostas.
Silence followed for a few seconds as everyone did some thinking.
Rick had just finished his Masters degree in Perth, Western Australia, and Kostas and Giannis had come to visit for a few weeks.
Endless hours of driving in the van between Margaret River and Gnaraloo, were perfect for self reflecting and thinking about the future.
Flip flop and boardshort lifestyle was one to keep, but it needed to be merged with a professional plan.
‘Naxos, Paros, Mykonos, Rhodos, these islands are full of schools already.’
‘In Skopelos, Skiathos and Alonissos there is no wind’.
‘What about Limnos?’. Another moment of silence.
Some of our close friends had visited the island in the past and came back with tales of this magical sandy bay, with turquoise waters, moderate meltemi winds, and no one on the water!
Some other friends served their military service there in the mid 80’s and windsurfed Keros with a small group of locals.

Our passion for waves had driven us all around the globe, from Baja, to Morocco, and now to Australia. But you don’t need mast high waves and 30 knots to open up a school.
You need a safe, sandy beach, moderate winds that suit 90% of the riders out there, and why not, sun and amazing water colors. Keros checked all of the above.
So in the next few years we visited Keros many times, checked out the conditions, set up a weather station, added the spot to windguru, and the rest is history.
Since then, we have devoted all our heart to share this amazing spot with the rest of the world. All our passion goes into sharing our knowledge of watersports with people that visit Keros. Surf Club Keros has grown, from a small school with two passionate instructors, to a ‘family’ of guests and staff that can accommodate more than 150 people on a daily basis. Our challenge is to keep up with the same energy, to make everyone feel as part of the family, and to spread the love of watersports, whether it is windsurfing kitesurfing, wind wing, or anything else, with everyone on the beach.
Thank you for being part of OUR STORY!
